What is Dolomite

Dolomite, which is also known as DOLOSTONE, is one of the sedimentary minerals that is classified as carbonaceous minerals. Dolomite is found in all sedimentary regions of the world. Carbonate minerals include calcite, aragonite, and Dolostone. Dolomite is the result of the combination of minerals such as magnesium oxide and lime with the chemical formula of CaMg(CO3)2. Also other oxides such as iron oxide, sodium, and potassium are present in its structure. This material is a crystalline mineral with a rhombic and prismatic structure, all of its surfaces are diamond-like and its formation is near the deposits of hot water springs; This is due to the high temperature causing calcium and magnesium to occupy the spaces and forming Dolostone.
Dolomite can be found in cream and grayish white colors, but there are other colors such as yellow, green, and black. This stone is harder and more resistant than most carbonate stones. In addition to the mentioned features also mention acid neutralization is of importance.
Pure white dolomite powder is insoluble in water, with a relative density of 2.5, stable chemical properties, and a slippery feeling. The powder acting as a plastic filler can improve the hardness, fire resistance, acid and alkali resistance, electrical insulation and dimensional stability of the product making it to be widely used in plastic, rubber, cable, paint, coating, ceramic, and other industries.
Applications of dolomite
1- Construction:
In construction, it can be used as a building stone in foundations or in some cases crystallized dolomite for decorative and facade stones. Of course, this application is the minimum use of this mineral because its other applications are more important and have more added value. Among Iranian reserves, Kermanshah and Kurdistan are mostly supplying in construction due to a lack of relevant technology or industry in the region.
2- tile, ceramic and glass industries:
In the glass industry, dolomite is used as a melting aid. The dolomite used in these industries should have a minimum percentage of colored oxides such as ahem, titanium, manganese, etc. About 10 to 15% of dolomite is usually added in the construction of the tile body which is a common application in Iranian tile industry.
Our Supply of Dolomite
In Iran, it is estimated that there are about 44 million tons of dolomite reserves. Currently, there are large mines with output of dolomite in the provinces of Hamadan, Zanjan, Sistan and Baluchistan, Kerman, Semnan, Isfahan, Khuzestan, West Azerbaijan, Tehran, Fars and Qazvin. At Zista Group we have prepared a professional supply chain from Mine to consumer of the material with the below estimated specifications and packaging options:
